Encore

Encore Description

Encore helps you find books, eBooks, books on CD, periodicals (newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals), DVDs, videos, and  web sites in Rothrock Library.

To learn if the library has a particular item, enter the item's title or author in Encore.

Or, to learn what items the library has on a particular topic, you can enter the subject or keywords for that topic.

After entering your search term(s) (title, author, subject, or keyword), you will see a list of every library resource that matches your request.

If you find a good eBook or web site, you can click on a link to read it on the screen. For other items, a "call number" will direct you to the exact location on a shelf where that item is kept.

To conduct a more complicated keyword search to see what the library owns, go to the library's home page at http://www.lccc.edu/library (or one of the two other ways you learned to get to the library's home page), click on Start Your Research Here, and click on Advanced Keyword (under Books, Media, & More). Or, if you have the call number (its "address" on the shelf), click on Start Your Research Here and then on Call Number (under Books, Media, & More).

Encore

Encore Step-By-Step

Encore helps you to find books, eBooks, books on CD, periodicals, DVDs, videos, and  good web sites in Rothrock Library. Here we'll look for a book about Benjamin Franklin:

1.     Go to myLCCC, click on Check Library Account, click on LIBRARY HOME, and click on Start Your Research Here or

go to http://www.lccc.edu/library and click on Start Your Research Here.

 2.     Enter your topic in the Encore search box (we're using Benjamin Franklin) and click on Find It!

 3.     Notice

  • the number of results for your search
  • the icons (graphics) next to them indicate the format of each result: DVD, book on CD, book, eBook, etc.

4.     Look at the information for the result that's titled Benjamin Franklin: An American Life

  • it's a book
  • its author is Walter Isaacson
  • it's available for you to borrow
  • it's located on Rothrock Library's lower level
  • its call number will direct you to its exact location on the shelf

 5.     You can click on these options

  • Request it (to pick it up in the library or have it sent to the front office at Carbon, Donley, or Morgan Center)
  • Add to cart (to print or email a list of the works that you select)

6.     When you click on the title of a work, you will be able to see where it was published, its publisher, and its copyright date. If it's a book, you also will see the number of pages, its main subjects, and sometimes its table of contents and summary.

7.      Return to the results list. Notice the options along the left. These allow you to:

  • limit your results to items that mention your search term as a subject, in the title, or as an author
  • limit your results to a particular format, such as books, eBooks, DVDs, web sites, et cetera
  • limit your results to a particular collection: Circulating Books (books you can borrow), Electronic Books (books you can read on your screen), Periodicals (publications issued at regular intervals, such as newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals), Media (such as DVDs, books on CDs, and videos), Children's Books, and works at the Carbon, Donley, and Morgan Centers

 8.     DVDs, videos, and books on CD are located in the Media Periodicals Room on Rothrock Library's upper level.
